I mostly agree. You'll have to carry your water with you from HMS to Shields Flat, but it's a great location for camping. There will be water at Limber Pine Springs as you make your way on down the San Bernardino Peak trail, so you can get plenty there to camp at Limber Pine and to get you on down to the trailhead. I wouldn't be surprised if Columbine were dry, though, and I've seldom found water there, especially this late into the season. Sounds like Felipe has had a different experience that I have with Columbine Springs?

: Greg,
: Almost sounds like you two are doing
: what's called,
: "9 Peaks". Great trip
: along the 10,000ft ridge. You'll
: find water at High Meadow Springs
: (little bit of a hike off the main
: trail), Limber Pine Springs and
: Columbine Springs. All very reliable
: sources. Camping at High Meadow is
: cool, I personally like Shields Flat
: better.
: It's a great trip any way you hike
: it.
: See ya at the top!

: My son just called to let me know
: that
: we cannot go to Utah due to school
: registration. Plan change would be
: to backpack in the SGW between July
: 26 to 31. We have gone in at Fish
: Creek, camped at Fish Creek Saddle
: and day hiked to the summit. If we
: were to go to Fish Creek Saddle on
: night one, Summit the next day,
: where to camp next and get water for
: a few days if we ended up at Angelus
: Oaks a few days later?
