A couple of years ago, my boss wanted to do an overnight...
Since he was coming in from out of town, we had our permit well in advance.
We knew there was supposed to be thunderstorms but we headed up anyway since we couldn't reschedule.
We didn't see a drop of rain until we pulled into the SouthFork area. And then all hell broke loose.
We got our gear out of the trunk and headed up the trail anyway. Lightning and thunder everywhere.
As we were headed onto the trail, a driver in a pickup stopped by the restrooms there, rolled down his window, and watched us as we headed up the trail through the cloud burst. Disbelief perhaps.
At first I wasn't sure about what we were doing... but it was freakishly awesome.
It stopped raining when we got past Horsecamp but there were several periods after we made camp at dry lake that we got more rain and thunder.
It was one of my most memorable hikes.
