I've actually spoken to Mr. Harrison about some of the errors in his maps. His answer was "that's where the Forest Service says it is". I thought that was a pretty odd answer given that the whole premise of Harrison maps is to do better than the government issue maps. Sigh. I've actually been to these places. My feet have been on the ground. The camp is not where the map says it is.
The Big Tree Camp is wrong. The Mine Shaft Flats camp is wrong (up on a steep hill rather than in the namesake flats). Those I remember off the top of my head. I'm sure there are other errors.
I've had a couple of good talks with rangers. I know they were re-doing the USFS guide to the San Gorgonio Wilderness relatively recently. Maybe the USFS will correct some of the errors and subsequently Mr. Harrison will correct his maps. Hope springs eternal.

: HJ, good detective work! I wondered
: about that last time I went into
: Dobbs. I like the SGW Harrison
: maps, but sadly, it appears to have
: the same error as the USGS map,
: where the Dobbs spur trail heading
: down the slope rather than angling
: toward the confluence of the Falls
: Creeks.

: There are a number of errors on the
: USGS topo map of he Momyer,
: Alger, and Falls Creek Trails in the
: San Gorgonio Wildnerness.
:
: 1. On the Alger Creek Trail, Alger
: Creek Camp is shown on the map at
: point "B". While this
: would be a fine place to camp, it's
: not where the camp is. The actual
: camp is at point "A".
:
: 2. At point "C" on the
: cutoff trail to Dobbs Camp, the
: trail is shown plunging straight
: down the hillside. Uh, no. The
: trail follows a line more closely
: described by points "C",
: "D", and "E"
: arriving near the confluence of the
: North and East Forks of Falls Creek.
:
: 3. Saxton campsite is shown as being
: up on the side of a hill at point
: "G". Don't think so.
: Saxton campsite is actually down in
: the flat at point "F".
:
: 4. The little cut off trail in
: Plummer Meadow described by points
: "H" and "I" no
: longer exists.
