I agree. I carry two Ursacks. I put food in one. The other gets everything else that may have some bear-attracting odor: the stove, cookpot, pot handle, spoon, cup, toothpaste, toothbrush, etc., and any food that would not fit in the other Ursack.
i don't use the aluminum liner. I do use the odor barrier plastic bag liner, although I doubt it is 100 % effective as an odor barrier. The odor barrier would probably reduce the chances of bear slobber leaking through onto my food.
I carry freeze dried food, granola, snack bars, pecans, and coffee. The weight savings of an Ursack is worth the inconvenience of some of that getting crunched. Food that does get mixed together a bit is still edible, and that has yet to be a problem. I'll never go back to a three and a half pound hard shell container, which barely holds all of my food, etc. for a three-night backpack. The two and a half pound container someone mentioned would only hold two days of food and utensils for me, and I only carry one small pot.

: Hopefully, the bear container
: requirements will include the use of
: Ursacks. Ursacks are lighter and
: pack better than a conventional
: barrel strapped to your back.
: Ursacks are not permitted in parts
: of the Sierra due to overly strict
: regulation IMHO. I am much more
: likely to carry an Ursack than a big
: uncomfortable "can".

: The Bear Vault canisters work very
: well. The BV450 Solo runs 69.95 and
: the BV500 runs 79.95. The BV450 Solo
: weighs 2lbs 1oz has a 4 day capacity
: and the BV500 weights 2lbs 9oz has a
: 7 day capacity.

: From Halfway Camp CLOSURE thread
: below.
: Seems like most everyone here is in
: favor of a bear canister requirement
: for the SGW. The requirement is
: currently being discussed by local
: Forest Service officials. However,
: the FS system is usually reluctant
: to impose additional requirements
: and restrictions on the public
: without a very strong need and a
: voiced desire by the public. We all
: know there would be a few who
: complain about having to buy or rent
: a canister.
: And instituting such a requirement
: involves a considerable amount of
: time, red tape, and many levels of
: review and approval. Also, FS
: workload is overflowing and
: priorities have to be set. We can
: help them be aware of the public
: desire and set those priorities by
: simply sending a short polite note
: about our desire for a bear canister
: requirement, letter or post card, to
: Forest Supervisor's Office,
: 602 South Tippecanoe Avenue,
: San Bernardino, CA 92408. Mine is on
: it's way.
