Guess that is the one that the UofA people had their gear on top of while we were up there.
Too bad I didn't actually get to see it while I was there, but, I'm sure they have an interesting experiment going on (I did read the abstract in the PDF that was referred to earlier in this thread).
My girlfriend is a bit of geology hound too, so, the trip and finding out about the experiment going on has all been kind of icing on the cake for getting to the top.

: when I waymarked it.
: Upon summiting San Gorgonio
: Peak, I found this marker placed by
: the San Bernardino County Surveyors.
: I could find no other markers. I
: found it a bit surprising that there
: were no USGS or CGS markers placed
: on the highest point in San
: Bernardino County and Southern
: California.
: This is a relatively small marker,
: about 2" in diameter.
: On the outside ring are theses words
: 1989 GPS SAN GORGONIO PEAK S.B. CO.
: SURV.
: Inside of this is
: HIGHEST POINT SO. CALIF.
: and in the center
: ELEV. 11501.6 FEET
