Decided to summit the four eastern peaks of the famed "nine" yesterday and thought I'd share my experience.
First off, did not see a single person the entire day and I was the only one to sign the register on Gorgonio it seems. Solitude at its finest.
Started the trip up the South Fork Trail to Dollar Lake Saddle. It was chilly up till then, needed a long sleeve and fleece jacket, my inaccurate thermometer read a low of 38 degrees.
Charlton: The register (like most) is missing its top and some condensation made its way in and made the notebook a soggy mess, it needs a new plastic bag and pad.
Little Charlton: A very easy scramble from Charlton, really a little bumb compared to its neighboring peaks.
Jepson: First time up and worth it. The views of the western end of the wilderness are superb, but the views of Gorgonio are breath taking. I will visit the peak again and again.
Gorgonio: A great peak that I always enjoy summiting. Only negative was the grafitti on the register box. A funny thing is the easy button, got a laugh from me.
I returned by going down the chute Kathy mentioned in her trip report recently, it was eery being alone with all the rock rolling around me. The rock is very loose mid chute, but fun nonetheless. Rest of the trip was a downhill trek through the beautiful wilderness. Dry Lake has zero water, truly living up to its name.
Working on the photos, they will be at this link later today
