Had a 50c.c. (38 miles an hour top)Honda that I attempted to ride from Brookings to Woonsocket in December 1963. Temperatures started out in the mid-forties and were at 19 when I arrived in Huron. Made the ride with a light leather jacket and it was getting cold when I arrived in Lake Preston.
Remember spending about an hour at Lyle's looking at gear and trying to warm up. House FULL of everything and a real anomaly for rural South Dakota. Great, great place.
BTW- I got as far as Huron, walked into the music store there, started shaking uncontrollably as I began to thaw out and drove the only customer, a fifteen year old girl from the store. Today I'd probably be on a sex offender list. Called a friend in Woonsocket and we put the Honda into the back seat of his 54 Plymouth for the final twenty four miles home.
