I grew up in Lake Preston and took accordian and guitar lessons
from Lyal Larsen of Lyal's Music. Lyal's Music was once the lagrest Fender dealer in the state of South Dakota. My friend Dave Cecil and I would hang around the store and watch the bands come and go. We were already in a band called the Cavaliers, that we had started when we were 15 and 16 years old. Dave and I wanted to build new auxillary speaker cabinets to make our sound bigger. Lyal helped us with the original black fabric, grill cloth, metal corners, screws, speakers and the Fender logo sign. After we had fabricated our speaker cabinets, Lyal asked if we would build him a coupe. We loved being in his shop working around all the new equipment. One friday afternoon
Steve Allis and the Starfires showed with their Oldsmobile Starfire pullin the band trailer headed to a gig somewhere. We were big fans and go to meet the band. They were there picking up some
new equipment they hand purchased. I purchased a Duo Sonic, Mustang, and a Bassman Amp from Lyal. Does anyone out there in the rock band world have any memories of Lyal's Music?
