I was playing in a tournament the other day, and a guy on my team hit a ball to the shortstop, he caught the ball but his glove came off. The glove fell to the ground with the ball still in the glove. The umpire called the batter safe cause he said the shortstop didnt have control of the ball. Does anyone know if that rule was correct? I thought that if the ball did not touch the ground its an out. I was just curious to the rule. Thanks

Batter is safe...the glove may have the ball...but the player has to control the glove...basioally the player has to have control of the ball...in this case he did not...even if the ball is still in the glove...the player does not have control of it...
