She sure is a cool looking dog. I haven't really been around many EM. There are a few that come into the vet's office where I work and they have all been very, very laidback. Now, most Dane's that I've been around have been ok. I have noticed that they are one of two ways; really silly with a look that says, "hey, ain't nothing going on upstairs," or they are really pushy and aggressive (nervous aggression mostly). Mostly I find that the problem is the owners don't bother to teach them anything and you get a 140 lb dog with no manners or with temperament issues. I did have a 145 lber attach himself to my head when I was kneeling down taking a bandage off of his leg. Not fun. I weigh 110 lbs and I was on the ground already. He gave no warning. I had already taken the IV out and he didn't move, striffen, or anything. But when I came back a few mins later to take the bandage off he nailed me, again, no warning. Luckly for me I didn't freak and try and jerk from him b/c he had my head from my left temple area all of the way to the back of the middle of my skull in his mouth and was chopping (not a nip, he had a grip and was working it). Good thing that our kennel guy was there to kick the dog off of me. The dog went right back to being normal. That is a dangerous thing. Who knows when this dog might explore again. But, I don't harbor any ill feelings towards Danes.
What are your goals for your puppy? You said that you normally don't mind pups being a little pushy. Do you have goals to work her? We let our pups be mouthy and kinda pushy but we teach them when it's ok to do it and do not let them boss us. Good luck with her.
