It's a really tough call because if you give them a spec motor the teams would probably just put alot more money into the chasis and body. spend much more on engineers ect. Please don't harden the tires anymore! They have nearly ruined racing at quite a few tracks because of hard tires. Tires need to give up for good racing. Follow the leader racing is what you get with hard tires and that is terrible to watch as a fan. Maybe if there was a way to control team spending or the amount of money a sponsor could spend on a team per year. Or limit engineers to one per team. Standardize equipment used by each team. When one Cup sponsor puts in 20 million per season and another only puts in 10 million thats why nascar has over priced itself and they are having trouble filling fields. Limit the sponsor dollars to Cup 12 million, Busch 5 million and trucks 2 million per season.
