This engagement didn´t come as a surprise. Nor did Prince Willem-Alexanders engagemetn to Maxima or Friso´s engagement to Mabel. And as far as I can remember also prices Pieter-Cristian and Floris had been seen almost "officialle" with their girl friends before engagements. But, what about Prince Consstantijn, was his engagement to Laurentien a surprise? Or Maurits engagement to Marilene, was their dating known in public? Was prince Maurits wedding the only wedding grandma Juliana attended?
