As many of you know, I am the commish of the SCSU this year. We are also now a USSSA league, and many of the umpires(we umpire ourselves) are really struggling learning how to call balls and strikes. Without hesitation Harty called every ball and strike on my pitches tonight EXACTLY how I would call them. I know myself and a few others can umpire fine, but with 16 teams my resources are spread too thin.
I have had calls for having an umpire clinic, but I think the best thing for us to do is to watch Harty do some games. Imagine that, going to a softball game to study an umpire? The reports I get from some teams in my league are horrendous concerning the umpiring.
If anyone knows when Harty or Will Roiter are umpiring games can you let me know? Nothing against the other umpires, but those are the 2 that I know. Gary, if you still umpire I guess we could watch you if we had to!
