Posted by Mickeyfan34 A trainer came out to evaluate him and help us with his leach aggression. He liked Django so much, he's adopted him for his own pack and will be using him in his training demo's. Best of all....Django wasn't dog aggressive, just never socialized on leash apparently. He's getting along great with the trainers other dog and a clients dog, and had also gotten along ok with the foster family's friends dog. So please everyone....it's worth taking your new pup or dogs to group classes to give them the best start in life. They learn to greet others on leash and learn it's not a scary thing. 2 year old male Black and Tan German Shepherd needing new home
Django is a neutered 2 year old male black and tan purebred German Shepherd. He belongs to my sis-in-law's sister. They've had him since he was a pup but due to the moms severe back injury, the older kids always being gone at work or school, and the husband not wanting a dog at all not much has been done with him. The Dad wants him gone ASAP and the mom feels horrible that he isn’t getting the training and play time that he deserves.
I met Django to eval him 2 weeks ago, and he was super sweet. Let us handle/touch him all over, push him gently into a sit, rolled over for lots of belly rubs, and loved running around out in the backyard with us. We were able to mess with his tail, paws, ears, etc no problems. Took food gently from our hands and let us mess with his food bowl while he was eating. He’s happiest lying on the couch cuddling with his human.
His owner said he would cower about going outside, but he followed me out without a problem.
His initial eval with us (myself and another evaluator from a German Shepherd Rescue) went great, and we thought he’d be easy to foster and should find a home quickly until we put him on leash to meet my male GSD in their front yard. Django has had literally no socialization on leach and it showed. I don't know whether he was just being protective of his family & their yard but he’ll need a lot of work in that area.
They said the daughter takes him to dog parks regularly and he does really well there, never has been a problem. I will try to meet them out there this weekend to observe if they're available.
I see a lot of potential with this dog in the right home; he's a huge love but will need a lot of guidance, training, and socialization. With that will come confidance. Unfortunately with my dad's health issues & because I don’t have a facility to keep him separate from my male Shepherd until I’m secure in leavig them together I can’t take him home to foster and train. If he and Joey had gotten along I would have brought him home with me that day.
He has had some accidents in the house, but I believe that is from not watching him and by restricting him to the areas that you’re in until you’re sure he’s completely potty trained I believe that can be resolved. I think more than anythign else this dog needs guidance. GSD’s need a job and lots of activity.
I’m happy to email pictures & a questionnaire for potential homes to complete and return. References will be checked as well as a home check. I can be reached at Candles2go@yahoo.com
Thanks!
