He is black with a lovely long mane and tail that are in desperate need of some grooming! He is very good for grooming, stands tied, is good being washed, and is good with the farrier. I can trim his feet by myself with him just tied to a rail. He also gets right into the trailer and is cooperative with just about anything you ask of him.
He is a bit overweight in these pictures thanks to the rapid maturity of the grasses in the pasture this year. He is getting no supplemental feed. However he is due for a dental and would need one before winter. Last winter he dropped more weight than I would like to have seen. He was on a strictly hay (good quality hay) diet. I think it was due to needing a dental. Obviously from these pictures we know his body can process calories!
Maestro is a beautiful mover with a cadenced trot and lovely rocking horse canter. He is very forward in his walk and trot – in a bold “let’s get to where we are going” way. Not out of control at all. He is broke but not well trained – what I mean by that is we have ridden him on the beach and in mountains and he even spent a couple months working with my partner on a cattle ranch. But none of this was “formal” training in reining or leg aids. That being said he is sensitive and cooperative. I have ridden him bareback with just a halter on back roads with pastured horses running like crazy up to the fence and all around in excitement. He does get excited but stays in control. He has a good “whoa” on him. There is not a mean bone in his body and he works “with” people – so putting a finesse on his training should be very easy. He wants to go when other horses are chosen for a day's ride.
Maestro has a long scar on his back left cannon from a dog attack 10 years ago. Thankfully no ligaments were cut despite the long lacerations. He was kept moving on it (I don’t believe in stall rest) and it healed very well – very flexible. He is sound and it does not cause him problems at all. But it is still visible and a blemish.
Maestro is registered with very good Arabian bloodlines. His grandsire is Raffon++ who was a National Champion in both halter and performance.
Maestro is 14.3hh – “seems” taller when he is fat as he has good size on him.
I am looking for a home where he can have his own person to spoil him, ride him in the hills or even compete in endurance or trail trials. This is a horse who would sleep outside your bedroom window to be close to you – so I really want him to have his own person. References and home visit will be required of course. He is free to the right person.
