Posted by Ekleqtik on 3/13/2005, 4:52 pm i'm having huge beatmatching problems with new gear that i've just ordered online from the UK. It came this weekend, and I started trying to mix yesterday... totally impossible. It's the Stanton STR8-30s with a Kam KSP-100. I've just gotten used to the mixer, but those goddam turntables are driving me mad. I've been djing for 6 months at a studio with this "teacher", and the turntables they had there had a really long and precise pitch fader. There's like a centimeter gap between 0 and 1% etc. On top of that they had a screen showing the percentage of the pitch, like a cd player. Now these STR8-30s are like a shock to me. The pitch fader is damn tiny, and theres half a centimeter between 0 and 2%, I haven't been able to get ONE mix right since yesterday, and just before practicing i tried the SAME mix for 60minutes straight and it never came out. Are these turntables crappy or am I gonna get used to them? thanks in advance

hey all, first off I'd like to compliment recess on the explanations made especially for the beatmatching, you the man!
Also, I've recently lost my touch on the vinyl, in other words, I always let it go either too soon or either too late, and I'm gonna keep practicing that. But even when I let it go right I can never adjust the pitch correctly. I used to beatmatch without touching the platter, just with the fader, and now its just impossible! The pitch bends like hell at the 0%, 2% 4% 6% etc, so if i were supposed to bring it to somewhere between 3 and 4%, its just not possible. worst thing is, sometimes it sounds perfect on the headphones, then i stop and let it go again to mix it in, and i find it out of time. I tried to mix by touching the platter, and the bend showed too heavily. Its really unbelievable.
I got really mad just now, and I decided to write to cool down. I'd like to ask for help on this (any type) and if anyone has used those turntables, are they even USABLE?
