I got a TX off ebay just a little while ago. The graffiti area is virtual; you can make it go away. The extra space is used for display just like the non graffiti portion of the screen of the E2. Instead of 320W x 320L, it's 320W x 480L, with the graffiti area collapsed.
I haven't gotten around to moving my life off my Visor Neo yet and I'm not letting go of my TX! Sorry.
If you can afford it, you might consider a Nokia N850 (or wait for their WiMax model). I think there is a Garnet virtual machine emulator so it can run all the Palm software. Plus you get Linux, a much bigger screen. I saw one in the store and depending on what Palm and Access come up with for the next versions of the OS, that might be my next handheld, albeit a few years down the road. I'm a late adapter.
