They're fairly prone to rust, if you just shave and put the razor away. I've found that you can take the blade out and pat it dry on a towel -- it doesn't have to be bone dry -- and rust is not a problem. At least the blade will get dull before you have to worry about it. Remember, men shaved with carbon steel blades for decades without too much drama. Considering how much trouble we take over other aspects of our shaving around here, this isn't THAT big a deal. At least it's worth trying the razor out. Hyperwarp also has some stainless Gem blades avaiable at his shop. I pat mine dry and get at least three shaves out of them. You can find Treets at Rite Aid. If you want to try a carbon blade them I would recommend the PAL. I usually see them at the Dollar stores. after you shave. The alkie displaces the water and evaporates. Hello Bob, If the GEM blades at your local store are in a silver package, they should be the stainless blades. The only other GEM-branded blades I have seen are in a blue package and are called the Blue Star blades. The Blue Stars are carbon steel. The carbon blades do get some surface discoloration pretty quickly, especially when used with shave creams. This does not seem to effect the shave quality. I do not leave the blade in the razor after the shave. I rinse the blade, pat it dry, and put it in the razor drawer so it will be out of the way of our parrots. They love shiny things. Thanks for the advice, gents. I picked up a pack of the CVS brand blades. They are made by American Safety Razor, so I assume they are almost the same as GEM blue stars.
