    Re: Electric Foil Shavers

    Hi Kaveh -

I never could use a rotary shaver, though I always liked the simplicity of the concept. I have done pretty well with a couple of foil-type shavers, however: A single-foil Sanyo that I really liked, followed by a triple-foil Braun, that also served me well. The Braun was the top of the line just before they came out with the self-cleaning models.

It was with these shavers that I learned about the direction of beard growth and attacking it at different angles until I mowed it down. I returned to traditional wetshaving more for reasons of nostalgia than out of dissatisfaction with the electric shave, and I still take the Braun with me when I travel. I do get a better, more enjoyable shave with a blade and good lather, however.

Regarding inexpensive electrics, my experience has been the following. I bought an entry-level Braun rechargeable that came with a tiny travel shaver powered by a couple of AA batteries. Neither of these shavers has the high-speed motor of the better shaver, yielding a less powerful shave. The result is that the shave with the lesser models takes more work, and then it still isn't quite as good as with the more expensive model. The top model also has a convenient quick-charge feature.

I also once bought an inexpensive Panasonic rechargeable, which has a single foil. That shaver gives me a lousy shave and razor burn! In contrast, with the Sanyo and the Braun, I could press the shaver into the beard/skin with no burn.

    Hope this helps -

: I'm experimenting with these shavers - hate
: the rotaries - as I've always found them to
: be good performers. And here's why:
    :
: They give me the closest shave without
    : ingrowns.
    :
: I really don't enjoy shaving with them
: because it takes forever and is a nuisance,
: but I get BBS eventually and never an
    : ingrown.
    :
: My question is this: Is there any
    : significant difference between expensive
: foil electrics and inexpensive ones - other
    : than flash?
    :
: I haven't tried an expensive one in ages,
: but the 10 dollar drugstore variety do a

    :
: What do you guys know about this?
    :
: Secondly is it best to shave on dry, freshly
: cleansed skin, or slightly lubed skin?
