Warp, I think a newbie should start with the most mild razor he can find until he gets his technique down. For that reason, I would recommend the Weishi. I would not recommend a boar for a newbie, because a boar takes work and a month's patience to break in. I would instead recommend that he face lather with the Omega Sintex 90049, which is good to go right away. Soaps? For face lathering with the Sintex, I would recommend the Arko shave stick if he is in Florida with you because of your humidity. The Arko dries out some people's faces more than other soaps, and I don't recommend it for a northern winter. For a boar brush, I would recommend Cella. For blades, I think that smoothness is the most important thing for a newbie, so I would recommend two of the Lord blades - the Silver Star and the Rainbow.
