Try this...shave normally with your DE of choice, and leave the problem areas alone. Use your electric for touch-up in these areas. Works great for me...I love my four pass DE shave, but there are areas I just can't get clean without pressure and tricky maneuvering. The electric does great for that.
I have the Braun mentioned as well (the 8995 or whatever - the one with the cleaning base). It does a respectable job with a daily shave, and has a few adjustable aspects - fixed or pivoting head, sideburn trimmer, etc. The cleaning/charging base is neat, but it takes $10 cleaning carts that last about a month or two depending on how often you clean the head.
You'll find that the differences with most models of foil cutters tend to be in the foil itself. The Braun I use has openings in the foil shaped like little octagons. Each edge is pretty much like a blade surface, and the block cuts the hair by scissoring it off against these surfaces. What this means is that it can cut in almost any direction smoothly. The block also floats, so you can press harder against your face, getting a closer shave.
