--Previous Message-- : I can't help with mnay of these items, as I : tend to use vintage razors and have not yet : experimented with many new brushes, either. : : For low/medium cost shave creams, currently : available somewhere (this leaves out Tryphon : brand), I suggest: : : Ingram's : Omega : Arko something (maybe Commando) : Speick : The French Williams (not mentioned much but : has a very modern scent that might appeal to : the younger set) : : Soaps: : : Institute Karite (high end) : One of the van der Hagens (for the : cheapskates) : Erasmic : Omega : Proraso Tea Tree : : Just some ideas -- I don't have any : experience with the smaller soapmakers apart : from Giovanni. : : -Previous Message-- : So if you were building a ShoeBox ShaveShop : what basic things would you put in the : box....Remember : your Shop is a Shoebox (well, maybe 2 : shoebox's ) : : What 2 or 3 razors? : : What 4 to 6 brands of blades ? : : What 3 to 6 badger brushes ? : : What 3 to 6 Boar brushes ? : : What 3 to 6 Shave Creams ? : : What 3 to 6 Shave Soaps ? : : What 2 to 4 AfterShaves ? : : What little extra items, such as Alum Block, : Styptic Pencils, etc. : : Seriously guys your input & opinions are : truly appreciated...Sigh, I might even go 3 : Shoebox's but No Mo' : : :Razor-Merkur HD, Gold. A looker and great for a newbie to learn with. Brush-Omega Pure Badger 13109. My first brush . Can't remeber it ever shedding and its gotten softer with use.For soaps I would get'em a Omega Pro boar, any of them would do.Big , soft , effective. Even on BB guys are coming around to the Omega Boar, especially the 48. Blades- Lord Extra-this blade to me is forgiving and sharp , I think of it as the perfect starter blade. Feathers of course and Yellow 7'O Clocks. Lather Bowl. Gio's $5 bowl is perfect. The right size, weight, depth and having it dropped it many times, unbreakable. The same bowl is at Walmart cheaper though. Hit'em up for a discount. Creams- Proraso, Gillette, Speick, Soap- Arko. You might try to get them a Marvy barbershop rubber shaving mug about $9 from any barber supply , like Appletons or Atlanta BS and mill the Arko in them with a dollar store grater. Your Nick is Sealed, a excellent product and should be novel for a newbie. Afershave- Speick, very healing stuff. Tabac, rich, quality, nice scent. This sounds like a fun project, enjoy your generosity, these guys are going to smile from ear to ear when they get there shoebox.
