I have one of these, too, that I got a few years ago NOS, like John. I have the original box, blades, instruction booklet and display label.
It's a nice razor, but it isn't finished nearly as well as a Gillette. Mine appears to be gold-washed, rather than plated, and I don't think it is laquered.
After using an Edwin Jagger DE87 for over a year, I am returning to gentler razors. I have been using the iKon Bulldog with safety bars, which has worked will. This week, I will try my old standard, the Gillette Tech, again. Maybe it's time to give the old Star another try, as well.
