I really appreciate your support.
Dad had his first heart attack at 42 when I was in the 8th grade and no one would have bet that he'd have made it to his 86th birthday.
He was great mentally up to very recently, but it was time. We cannot say enough positive things about the hospice care he received at home, and I marvel at the strength of my mother and my brother (who lives next door to them.)
So far it doesn't suck nearly as bad as I always imagined it would, but we'll see. Our family has a sense of humor about all things - death included - and life goes on.

: As we all recall from Tom's postings, he had
: felt for a long time now that he didn't have
: a lot of time left with his Dad, and he
: lamented over the distance between them.
: It seems that his Dad passed away yesterday.
: I thought that perhaps his friends here
: might want to show him some support.
: Tom was truly blessed to have a great
: relationship with his father for so long. I
: can only imagine that this might make it
: even more painful than losing your father
: too early, as I did mine.
: I'm very sorry for your loss Tom, and I hope
: the time will come quickly that all your

: your face and warmth to your heart.
