Weird shave today...I had three day's growth, and NEEDED a shave before work. Showered, then did this:
1940's Super Speed
Gillette 7 O'Clock Yello, day #4? #5? Dunno.
Creamo Cream (brushless)
3 pass shave plus cleanup
cold rinse/Shavex Alum/cold rinse
Kiehl's Blue Astringent
Black Magic Bay Rum A/S
I've had the Cremo for a long time, intending to use it for travel or for "I just don't have time for this" shaves, and this was the first time I've used it. It's weird. It's pretty damn slick, and works pretty well. I ended up with no irritation or razor burn. None. I did not end up BSS, but I didn't expect to, as I didn't have time to obsess over my mug, especially with the wife tapping her toe in the doorway, waiting for me to get out of the bathroom so we could go to work. Cremo does the trick, but it isn't nearly as fun. I think next shave I'll do my usual routine, but use the Cremo on the neck area for any additional passes and cleanup.
The Bay Rum I got is really cheap, but it works well, and smells (mostly) like Bay Rum actually smells like that smell when you walk past a barber shop...it's cheap, like I said, but it contains real bay oil, menthol, boric acid (helps prevent ingrown hairs), and was nice and cooling (lots of alcohol, but it didn't burn like hell...must have been because the Kiehl's had already done most of that...not that IT burns, but my face was already tended to). The smell was heavy and sweet at first, but didn't linger for long, and now I have a very nice mild BR scent. Gio's got a review of it in his Bay Rum roundup. It's the first one listed.
All in all, a pretty nice shave this morning, albeit out of the ordinary.
