Well, I must say...cooler heads HAVE prevailed, thus far, and after nearly every freaking mod over there had to put in their two cents worth, nothing further has come of this. Not banned, but I'm pretty sure I'm not on the X-mas card list this year. I'm glad to see that they DO seem to maintain some good sense. I can see how they may have taken offence at my initial comment (about the track records of some of the mods, lol).
I must say that I really do like that board for a lot of reasons. It's s good resource for information, the members are really helpful/friendly/welcoming, and there's a lot of fun to be had. There is a bit of old-boyism (some of these guys have an insane amount of posts, and they just LOVE their inside jokes and only responding to eachother), and if you know how to read between the lines and see the ulterior motives (there's definitely favoritism for certain vendors, as we all know...) you can immunize yourself against a lot of that crap, but all that aside, it's still a great site. Banning folks the likes of Michael Ham and Gio, and a few others is just unconscionable though.
Tbone - I see what you're saying, but I think the "it passes muster with the mods" comment was just to say that they hoped the idea was endorsed, not that anyone was cowering in fear of of them, lol. After the idea was put forward, paul.c's wife created an account and posted in the shopping forum her "sales pitch", basically tossing the idea out there. It was a funny post, like an old time TV infomercial pitch, and the mods temporarily removed the posting while they checked out her credentials, so to speak. They are just being cautious. Hell, on THAT score I don't blame them. The idea of a brand new member saying "hey guys, send me all your shaving stuff, and I'll be sure to send it to new shavers" does seem "suspicious, but I'm sure if Jim or one of the other old schoolers over there put the idea forward, it wouldn't even be questioned.
MT - would be interested to know what some of those PMs you speak of said...
