Posted by Steven Bazzone My 1982 GL1100 had similar problems and I had the carbs rebuilt. New rubber pistons and spring loaded needle valves (just get rebuild kits) should be cheap to buy. Lasted about 12 years. Yesterday, mine started up but wouldn't stay running except with the choke open wide. It was also misfiring a bit. # 4 plug was loaded with carbon. # 2 was not as bad. #1 & #3 plug looked good. I swapped the plugs from one side to the other and the same thing happened. Spark also looks good. Steve --Previous Message--

Hey,
Planning to rebuild #4 carb to start with as the bike sits a bit more than I would like and as I said it's been about 12 years since the carbs were rebuilt.
: Hello everyone,
:
: I hope someone here might be able to help me out with my problem.
: I am fixing up an 1982 Honda Goldwing GL1100. I took apart the
: carbs, cleaned them all and put them back together. After I did
: when I started it, it runs wonderful. After a few minutes of it
: running and reving a bit it starts to run ruff, idling high and
: smoking a bit. It sounds a bit like its getting to much gas in the
: Carbs. I have read a couple diffrent manuals and they all point to
: the floaters being flooded but when I was cleaning them, none of
: them were heavier than the others. If anyone has any advice or
: possible problems to check it would be greatly appreciated.
