did you ever get this figured out? i had the same problem several years ago with my 86. i eventually gave up because i could not get it fixed (a mechanic couldnt even figure it out!) i had thought it had to do with the carbs because of wear and tear, but never took them completely apart to overhaul them. i was also getting back fires and some antifreeze on my foot after the bike ran for a while. never read hot, it would just peter out. please let me know what your outcome was. steven.
: i have a 1985 kawasaki ninja 600, ok here goes: bike was running
: poorly when i started it after it had sat in the garage for a few
: months, did basic repair manual "troubleshooting" (i.e.
: cleaned the carbs, plugs, oil change, drained the gas tank, brand
: new battery)
: i did a compression test on all 4 cylinders in which i got
: readings of below 50psi on the two left cylinders, on the two
: right cylinders i got a reading of a little over 100psi (i believe
: 100psi is normal for that side)
: my question is why would the 2 left cylinders not have compression
: while the 2 right ones do, and when i try to start the bike up it
: back-fires and a flame shoots out of the exhaust pipe. if anyone
: knows what the solution is or any ideas on what my problem is or
: even what caused it PLEASE!!!! e-mail me.
: VERY much appriciated!!!
