02' 750 vulcan fr brakes

looking for a pointer or 2 about changeing the front brake pads on my 02 750 vulcan. inside pad is a simple retainer. out side larger pad has 2 pins guiding the pad. these pins must be removed?? strange set-up thanks. mark
