adjusting shift lever Vulcan 500LTD

I purchased a 2005 Kawasaki Vulcan 500LTD. When I shift, my foot gets stuck between the shift lever and foot peg. Not enough room for my boot.
How do I adjust he shift lever to allow my foot to move easily between the foot peg and shift lever ?
