hi there. I had a similiar problem with my 01 vulcan. It appears that the rubber diaphram in the carb had a small pin hole develope. I was loosing vacuum when driving under low rpms. On the highway, there was enough air intake to mix with the gas some what. In low or city traffic, my bike would shut off cold turkey. I replace the diaphram and it works fine. No a have problems with the valve adjustement. Starting to get front end noise.
