obtaining an ownership

Bought a bike but i got the wrong half of the ownership. im in hamilton, ontario. bought it off a middleman. last owner lives about 1.5 hours away in niagara falls. i havent spoke to him yet. cant get a hold of him, middleman is hard to get a hold of. anyway to get an ownership without those people. any help would be wicked. im gettin tired of this runnin around. How do i find out if its stolen? cuz that would suck ballllllls. thanks a lot. ciao
