96 Vulcan 800 Not starting

I rode the bike yesterday (and everyday before that for the last 3 months) and went to go for a ride today and it wouldn't start. When I hit the starter gas started coming out of both pipes.
Could this be a carb problem or a spark problem and how can I tell?
Any help would be great,
