I went to http://www.directparts.com/static/articles/exhaustpipe.html and saw an article on pipes. Hopefully you can get to the same one. The article mentions that your running very rich, in other words your having fuel in your exhaust that buring and causing the higher temp. and discoloration. It also mentioned a substance that can be applied to the inside of the pipe to help eliminate this, but also your carb. probably needs adjusting to counter the rich burning. Hope this helps.
