The article mentions that your running very rich, in other words your having fuel in your exhaust that buring and causing the higher temp. and discoloration. It also mentioned a substance that can be applied to the inside of the pipe to help eliminate this, but also your carb. probably needs adjusting to counter the rich burning. Hope this helps.
