Hello all. I am a long-time Basenji breeder who has an interest in RTs. A friend and I were having a conversation today and I hope someone here can answer a question we both have. I know that RTs, at least Deckers, have Basenji in their ancestry. One of the major health concerns we have in Basenjis is called Fanconi Syndrome. This is where the kidneys gradually shut down and if not properly treated, the animal dies. It is often misdiagnosed as diabetes. Fanconi is passed along via both parents. If both parents are carriers or affected then the pups could be affected. I was curious if this issue has ever cropped up in RTs? Any help or comments would be most appreciated.
