I am at work right now hopped up on Sudafed (the good stuff that you have to sign for) and coffee, and was thinking about all of my baby doggies, especially Lola since I took her out dove hunting with my future in-laws on Monday.
She wasn't sure about the gunshots until she saw a bird that I had clipped hit the ground - and then it was GAME ON for the little Princess. She dispatched the bird with her efficient and practiced head shake, and then I couldn't get her to stop running! She flushed birds for us by running through the sunflower patches, and then whenever she heard a gunshot she was off to whomever shot, looking for the bird!
I also got a kick out of her when she wouldn't give any of the birds to Thayne - she would growl at him and step away from him when he tried to reach for them. She would bring them all to me first! Good dog! As Tracey said - she's feeding her pack first. A game warden stopped to talk to us, and we had a bit of fun with him when he asked what kind of dog Lola was - our answer was that she was a bird dog! Finally, Teresa gave in and told him that it was a Rat Terrier - and he was shocked - couldn't believe that we were using her for birds. But there she was, dove in mouth, and her stump wagging 100 miles an hour! In all, we got 16 dove that day, and Lola found 14 of them for us.
Anyway, here is the Princess Lola at a very young age. Darice Ragan took the picture when I flew out to Tennessee to pick her up, and I still love it!
