Want to watch 'Along These Lines' but don't live in the Meridian ITV region? This post describes three ways of accessing the channel, using various levels of ingenuity.
1. Sky Subscribers
Many thanks to the Hursley Park Model Railway Club for these instructions, which were published in its weekly newsletter.
(a) Bring up the Services menu and choose option 4 "System Setup", then option 4 again "Add Channels".
(b) Type in the frequency "10891H", symbol rate "22.0" and FEC "5/6".
(c) Choose "Find Channels" and the list of channels being broadcast by that transponder appears.
(d) Highlight the name and press the yellow button for all the ones you want to add to your list.
(e) Press the "Select" button to save your choices - your selected channels are now available under the "Other Channels" option on the "Services" menu. You can save up to 50 channels in this way.
All regional variations are available. For details, go to: http://www.wildsat.com/astra.htm
For those who don't live in the south east or don't have Sky, it might be possible to watch the series on the Meridian website, which is:
http://www.itvlocal.com/meridian/
2. Virgin Cable Subscribers
Member Ron Strutt advises that viewers who are not in the Meridian area but have Virgin cable may possibly be able to get Meridian on the alternative ITV1, which is Virgin channel 871. Ron is able to access Meridian this way in the Woking area.
3. Maplin Portable Satellite Kit
Member Bob Morgan has just received a (non Sky) portable satellite kit from Maplin (http://www.maplin.co.uk/) for £69.99 inc p&p designed for use in a caravan, boat, etc. (12/24v) or at home (mains) - all kit supplied ... he pointed the dish at 28.2E Astra 2C and, despite being on the west coast of Wales, found that he could receive Meridian (and all ITV/BBC regional programmes) for absolutely no extra cost. It took a bit of time to find the satellite without specialist kit; but Bob did it, so you can too!
This is definitely the prize entry on this page!
