At the All Candidates forum at CNC a question was written and read to Gino DeRose...something like: "You were overheard saying...if you can't speak the language get out of the country...is that true?" Can you imagine the moderator actually reading the question? Poor Gino was so flustered by this and of course denied it. Apparently his mother speaks little english so doesn't sound like a realistic thing he would say. I doubt anyone was impressed and I hope the Chamber has learned from this and will never use the process again. I much prefer to have someone go to the mic and ask questions.

While the question was well... questionable... it did sure open my eyes on Gino. He had a chance (much like Mr. Forman did) to answer the question rationally and make the issue look silly. Instead he proved a couple things. 1) He's already polarizing voters. SOMEBODY out there obviously has had a run in with him, and he hasn't even made it to council yet. Not a good sign. 2) He is cocky. Even if you ARE a front runner (which I now hope isn't true), I sure don't want to know just how great you think you are. 3) He isn't ready to be a "thick-skinned" politician. If you aren't prepared to take some undeserved heat now and again, politics really shouldn't be your big thing.
