If we get enough smart cars, can we get a .800 tree for them so it would be fair??

Of the 39 who voted no Towing, would you leave open since you now have a .500 tree because of towin?

To All,
I think everyone is right, we need to make it fair for everyone.
The split tree gives the big tire cars a chance at the .500 lite. That may help.
The towing in the lanes will give anyone with a hot running car, especially in this summer, an even chance on the track. Overheating should not be a deciding factor in a race. It may also speed up the program in the later rounds.
So Mel, please include the split tree and towing in the new Open Comp rules.
Thanks

Looks like the towing was voted down? Would be a mess if everyone towed to the lanes. Besides I thought this was the Pacific STREET car. My cooling system is for shit and I do it.

I am sure pro STREET and Outlaw STREET wouldn't agree with you. Plus, I wouldn't think your stang would pass the "test only" smog test required to make it Street Legal.
Just saying, It is not "fair" for you to force another racer to run their car hot getting from the pit to the starting line. Especially when our car counts are the worst during the heat of the day.
Very few of us have street legal cars.
I still have to send Mel the rules to post anyway

I have no problem with the heads up guys towing where ever. But the bracket classes should be driven up to the lanes. If we have 50 cars in sm and only half do it that is a mess of cars getting in the way. if you let 1 bracket syle class do it you need to let them all do it. I dont car either way I will start towing though if its avail to me.

OK Ron,
I will admit it.
I don't care if you want the track to give you a .490 tree being that your car is set up that way on that day.
What I care about is you only allowing changes that directly affect YOUR CARS Benefit. So there I admitted it for you. Let me show you.
Towing, does not affect you at all. IN FACT, it allows both you and the other racer to be able to stage the car MUCH Cooler no matter engine size or cooling system and therefore Fairly.
EXAMPLE
Racer #1-has a good cooling system and transmission cooling and can be cool enough to be at 150deg when they pull into the water box every time. This guy can do it repeadely and consistant. (holly cow, that's me)
Racer #2-Does not have the money we spent for cooling but wants to support two classes. He gets to the lanes, drives forward inch by inch, and stages the car at 190deg. Maybe hurts parts as we do this and delays the show.
So because You are being as against towing, He now
1. Gets a bunch of friends to PUSH his car from the head of staging all the way to heather. Causing other racers to hang back so they don't unneccesaraly heat up.
2. Spends hundreds of dollars to upgrade just to run with us.
3. They never supports two classes again, expecially in the summer, and we lose car count. (I already know some cars like this)
All this and the fuel savings at $12 a gallon that you save.
As for causing a space issue, we already have our tow vehicles in front of our cars, we just don't have the tow strap hooked up. So what is the differcnce.
See the point! NO advantage on the track.
It appears that you are trying to gain an advantage over a car that doesn't run as cool as yours or mine?
DING, DING, DING. We have a winner.

07 Mean and 10 Open Comp Champ
Doug, I've said it many times. The tree issue, the towing issue does not affect me. I might be wrong in what I have been saying, but I am truly trying to keep the playing field as even as possible. It's not about me Doug and I think you know that. I have the .400 tree figured out, give me a break. I won the O/C Championship in 2010, have a chance to win the Mean Street Championship for 2011, Won O/C at the 2011 SCSN race. Was in 6 finals at the last 6 2011 PSCA events. Finished runner-up against you at the NMCA race, what more do I have to do to show you I don't have a problem with the .400 tree. I have worked hard at getting the car more consistent and running it out the back door. Hopefully will improve even a little more this year with the new glide. And as far as towing, it doesn't matter to ME one way or the other, I have 2 16 volt batteries and have never had a cooling problem, Never! But I do know there are cars that would like to have a tow vehicle because of cooling issues but either can't afford it, or don't have someone to drive the tow vehicle. So I am truly speaking on behalf of those racers and trying to keep it fair for everyone. I am now throwing in the white flag and do hope you have a great 2012 season. If I have said anything wrong on the message board or have offended anyone, I sincerely apologize. May God Bless you Doug and all the other PSCA racers as well.

Doug and many of the other faster cars are deadly on the tree, I applaud them for that. They can bump into the beam the same every time, make whatever adjustment they need to slow their R/T down and go double 0's pretty consistently. Either by tire size or an adjustable type trans brake button, etc. With the slower cars now being able to stage the same way, slow their R/T down as needed you are going to see these same cars starting to improve a bunch on the tree and more consistently. I'm sure you know that. That's why! Doug has danced all around it but has never truly answered my question on why he is against the .500 tree.

Im going to have to agree with Ronnie on this one. Doug is an exceptional racer and will figure it out though. As for towing in the lanes the point doug made about the expense is no where in line. It is cheaper to have a good cooling system or buy another car to tow your vehicle with. If they allow it im going to do it as it gives me a advantage over anyone who doesent do it. By the way I only bring my Motorhome to the track so get out of my way in the lanes because my wife will be driving it lol!

If you are currently running in a different Association or in a class other than O/C would you start running in Open if they allowed towing. Please give us your name, current Assn. or class and I am sure if there were enough NEW racers that the towing rule could probably be changed. I'm for it if it betters the PSCA.

Well the truth has come out.
We have now proposed that towing should be allowed in the lanes in Open comp Just like Pro STREET and OUTLAW, Super and Quick. Other organizations allow it in Open Comp.
It adds NO extra money and deters people who push thier cars OR sit until there is a huge space in front of them until they move. Talk about clogging the lanes.
BUT in Open Comp we only want to promote the SLOW car counts aparently. That's why we changed a long standing .400 tree to .500? Next we will eliminate the First or worse rule in red lighting because it isn't fair.
I for one have the biggest motor in the class, 640. I have a awesome cooling system and numerous times wait for the slower car to get to the lanes because they are hot. I suggest towing as a way to increase faster car counts just like we added the .500 tree to increase slower car counts. Let's be fair here. You now have Super and Quick that can tow, shouldn't we allow those guys to tow in open too? Increased car counts.
You guys only want to taylor the rules to your cars. I suggest things than any racer can use no mater if you are 8.60 or 19.60.
IF NOT, get rid of the .500 tree and let's play with the 2011 Rules!!!
I know you really don't want to do what it takes to increase car counts anyway.

Heres how changing from .400 to a .500 will effect you if you can cut a good light on .400 tree and go in shallow your going to red light everytime on a .500 tree and if you run quick or super your not going to set up your car to leave on a .500 tree. I think open comp is going to lose some cars i hope not for mel sake.

07 Mean and 10 Open Comp Champ
In open comp there is going to be a split tree, take your pick .400 or .500. Doesn't make a bit of difference to O/C racers. And it is going to eliminate deep staging. The only class affected is Mean Street and more than half of the cars had to go deep so .500 make more sense. A larger tire on the front with an adjustable trans brake button and 90% of the cars are good.

There is no advantage, everyone could do it if they wanted, no change to your race car, unlike changing the rules on the race track. You can already tow to the back of the lanes.

It does affect me if they allow it in a class I race. I don't like people trying to get an extra edge on other racers. Towing is an advantage to many cars. You can't possibly say it isn't. Many racers come by themselves like I said a few different times and they would not have that towing luxury. It would be an unfair advantage to many racers. It doesn't bother me, I've never had an overheating problem. But it definitely is to some. Like I've said a dozen times, lets try and keep the playing field even. If it truly would bring more cars then I would be for it, unfair or not.

Still don't see how it is an advantage other than not forcing a racer to upgrade thier cooling system to run two categories.
We can tow to the entry of the staging lanes and then push our cars the rest of the way. I guess in your mind that is unfair because if you travel alone, you really can't push your car to the ready line??
As you know, I definitely do not have a cooling problem but looking for solutions for the other group of racers that are not 10 sec and slower.
Let's just race under the old rules, .400 and no tow. Then no one has any more advantage than the previous year.

Well, this first time that the track makes a mistake on the input of .400 or .500 there will be big issues.
Now you would have a rerun, if you can prove it, and then Mel's show gets off schedule.
You say put a bigger tire on and longer button. I thought this was all about increasing car counts and not increasing racer cost.
Tires $400
New button $50
500ft of 18 gauge wire (to slow the transbrake down) $200

Agreed Doug. Personally, I don't care if they split the tree, my concern matches yours: Will it work each and every time, without mistakes? I posted this earlier and have not received an answer yet. I will run the .400, but if I get the wrong tree and go red by .080, how will I prove it? I seriously doubt if there will be a rerun. You will be screwed at that point and most likely not run O/C again. Once again; Great if it will work without any mistakes...ANY mistakes.

Well, if it is not perfect I would say forget it. I have posted twice asking how it will work with no response. Maybe this is a premature question, (which is ok at this time)or does somebody actually know how it will be set up? If it is not perfect, and subject to human error, count me out!

Mel.
I have to admit, I have not seen time slips with a split tree before.
Will it show what tree was selected by each racer? If so, than it would be easy to determine that it is incorrect and that a rerun be made.
Just concerned that this could slow down your show.
No problem on my side.

I think the tree will be more of an issue for the track than towing, which is done in many classes in PSCA. No other class has a split tree.

Towing would become an advantage when they start hot lapping. Keep the playing field level, I say no.

There are not too many cars that will tow, so I don't see the problem. I do not tow my race car, but towing sure helps when it is hot outside and you are going through the rounds with a big inch motor. Who wants to strap a huge, 50 lb. radiator to their car? If there is no towing allowed, and the line initially moves pretty quick, a few guys are going to end up having to push their car 100 yards to the front of the lanes. People that prefer to tow their vehicles have never bothered me one bit. Actually, I never gave it a thought.

Many racers come to the track by themselves, makes towing a little tough. Make it the same for all racers! NO TOWING! Simple & Fair!

"street" cars shouldn't be towed at all...otherwise call them what they are...no one likes to hot lap their cars in the heat....

OH Very funny. (Smart Car)
But really, if you allow towing, does it hurt anyone that doesn't tow?
Maybe this will help get some more double entries that are afraid of overheating?

who cares about towing a car up, if you have a big crew you can push the car so where's an advantage? Unless you ban big crews next?

problem is if everyone starts to tow then there will be no room in the lanes. Im all for it, towing would be sweet but it takes double the room.

Glen, You are not concerned about the .500 tree are you. I am assuming you are talking about a 30 inch tire for the front of your car which you do not need. You can continue to run the .400 tree. So you have no problem right and you didn't run Mean Street all of 2011. I don't understand!

Just saying that two weeks ago it was impossible to cut a .400 light in a 10.60 car unless you deep staged. I know this car and it can do it.
