It's a small world after all. Two days after the last PSCA event at Fontana, Mel came to where we were living at the time, the Antelope Valley Fairgrounds, and we were discussing various places to go on vacation. I told Mel that we were headed for Mt Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Devils Tower, on to the Little Bighorn (Custer's Battlefield), back in to Wyoming to Cody to go to a rodeo and on to Yellowstone. Mel told me where they were going; to the Grand Canyon, and I thought he said places in the southwest region.
But now here we sit at the west side of Yellowstone in a KOA campground and I am looking at the GPS in the motorhome and we have traveled in excess of 1600 miles. Yesterday, after leaving one of the waterfalls in Yellowstone, who in the hell do you think we would bump into. At the time I was looking down at my grandson and I hear this voice say "Paul Schmitz" and I look up and here is Mel.
Now I know a lot of you out there know that Mel and I have had our differences, but I saw another side of Mel yesterday that was great to see. I could see it in his face that he had never seen the splendor of Yellowstone. His voice when he spoke about things that they had seen is hard to describe. He told me that he was only going to be here one day, but believe me you cannot see all of Yellowstone in FIVE days. I know he will return, he was like a little kid in a candy store that just yearns for more. It was great to see him out with his family away from the everyday grind of being a race promoter and off of the blacktop. Go to our link to check out the photo.
