Posted by mark on 5/29/2002, 12:26 pm --Previous Message-- Ashley, my brother, you have raised worthy questions in pursuit of a community that shares your soulful and creative passion. I have three recommendations for you. Jackson is truly magnificent. It is one of two places that I would consider leaving Tahoe for, but I am a bit tenative because of my perception that I should be in California for a while. You would find no lack of goodness there. Telluride, Colorado... What a real place! The people there shun Starbucks and don't let them come in. Not to mention Home Depot, Wal-Mart, McD's, etc. The scenery is packed with grandeur and skiing is phenomenal. The days are often such an intense blue that you may feel as if you are on the border of outer space when unloading atop Telluride. Whistler.... is where it's at. I have been to some art shows in Whistler in the summer, and I know that I have seen some of my favorite pieces ever right in Whistler. No shortage of beauty, community, art, or inspiration. You just need to be able to work legally, and to do that, you would want to pursue a visa immediately. Yingling lives in Whistler, and he may be able to help you if you are interested. jeffyingling@hotmail.com. All three would be sick! I am so glad to hear that you are going to live somewhere like that. Another cool option would be spending a summer (winter) down under in Wanaka, New Zealand. It would be a somewhat foreign experience, but it's a groovy town on the up-and-up as far as funkiness, community, art, etc. The land is amazing, like Whsitler. The dollar there is strong like it is for us in Canada, and I have contacts there.
: good luck carey. fellow freestyle friends, i
: write now in searck of information. with
: a piece of paper now in hand i look to
: take one or two years off and enjoy
: myself before pursuing another one. while
: i first considered teaching, i realized
: such tasks would take their toll and i
: would be left without the energy needed to
: engage my true calling, my own projects.
: i need a job which will be more fun than
: not, preferably outdoors even in the
: mountains. so, i have decided that if i
: teach ski lessons for two years i will
: enjoy myself and am now looking for an
: area in which to live for a short time.
: jackson hole seems favorable
: geographically, as i have never been to
: that region of the country and after some
: research am attracted by its splendor.
: and it seems as though there is an art
: community there. one site explains there
: are a couple dozen art galleries in the
: town. i am looking for good skiing and
: humans my age with whom i can communicate
: about things such as art and perhaps even
: with them participate in artistic acts -
: making music, etc.. as you guys - and
: that means you kendrcik, stocker,
: langleys, etc. know a lot more about the
: ski world - i hope you might provide some
: input as to what areas i might consider.
: of course i am looking for good skiing -
: but my greatest interest is in finding an
: area wherein i will be most likely to
: interact with individuals sharing
: interests similar to mine.
Let me know if I can assist more. Good luck.
