: I would like to hear from powerlifters who have overcome loss of
: finger or other hand injurys and have sucessfully resumed
: deadlifting.
: I lost my ring finger two minths ago. Im wondering if I will
: have to learn the OLY lifters hook grip or if my remaining
: fingers will get strong enough to resume deadlifting with the
: reverse grip. My concern with the hook grip is that even the
: best oly lifters clean 500lbs fairly quickly compared to my
: slowly grinding out a 600+ DL, and with all that weight my
: thumbs??? Any help out there?
:
:
: good day...
:
: hope i can be of some encouragement.....and help....there is an
: Oklahoma lifter ...Danny Burton who has 3 1/2 fingers and at his
: peak pulled about 650 if i remember.....so it can be done....
:
: form is the key...and explosive power....either type of grip is
: satisfactory but i would not change from whatever grip you had
: before the injury.....
:
: i also have a lifter and at 65 years old has pulled about 450
: which is his best (having started lifting at age 58).....with no
: problem...he has a ring finger he is unable to use........the
: joint is fused straight....
:
: good luck....

Thanks....
Ive also been made aware of a super heavy with a missing ring finger griping 700+ dls and he grips natural or reverse grip. I've also been encouraged on other forums to start working with the hook grip that I should be able to overcome the pain with 600+ DLs. So Im getting a mixed bag of info here. I guess It's like anything else....make a plan stick with it and It'll work...
Thanks, if I have any questions as time goes on Ill write back
