Hi Jason,
So you want this hair on or hair off? Regardless, the flesh side of the hide must be scrapped to remove all fat, tallow and yellow stuff. Do not scrape so deep as to expose the folicicles of the hair.
Build a frame. Wet the hide and begin to stretch. Wet and stretch until you have the largest presentation.
Begin to remove the brains from your animal. There should be about a cup full. Place them in a pot an slowly bring to simmer with 3 times the amout of the brains with cool water. This will provide a grey mush. DO NO BOIL THE BRAINS!
Now that your hide is stretched, cleaned of tallow, fat and yellow stuff, take time to build yer fire. Small fires work best. Git some sticks and build a tripod that will stand 4-5 feet above the fire.
Now yer got yer fire built, yer brains have turned to mush, take yer brains and hand rub into all parts of yer hide. Use it all!! The more the brains, the smarter they are. Now yer hide is wet with brain mush, every inch is covered. Let stand till yer fire is right. With tripod in place, check yer fire, soak up some Alder chips and get some wood that is pleasing to the taste. Radish root, Mesquite, Mint, garlic (keeps off th skeeters).
As your fire smokes nuff to make yer sneeze, post the tripod, bring yer stretch that now has dried 2 hours, and wrap it around th tripod. Long side down and the thin part half way. If'n yer got burlap, wet it an wrap the outside.
Keep cool fire going 6-10 hours till this inside of the hide brings a golden beauty.
Remove tripod and allow this hide to cool intackt
