Howdy, here are some thoughts from a fellow that would love to get involved with this rendezvous thing. I have been to a few rendezvous in my life and I always come away with the same feeling. Rendezvous are very similar to museums. Lots of looky but no touchy! I wander the blanket trader stalls and look at stuff. I wander the tent city and look at all the stuff. I drive home and wonder what I just looked at. I have tried to chat up a few of the participents and God bless 'em I have learned a thing or two. Yet for the most part I only satisfied my visual sense.
Buckskinners need to take a lesson from the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA). At the EAA yearly convention, the program involves hands-on training that includes everything from how to build an airplane, to how to use a welder, to how to build your own shop tools to build the airplane.
Any sport that wants to attract new people needs to realize the sport needs to touch all the senses of the newby. See next post for more.
