I hate to have to agree with Alan d but on the matter of the JMB i do. I think i may have the 13.2 in question it measured easily in January and i am confident that it will measure again next January. It will not look big in the paddock on Sunday at Newmarket. My Black pony will look small but that has a JMB of only 13hh. We have to adopt a set of regulations for pony racing and the JMB is fraught with problems -(young ponies growing and putting on muscle)- however other organizations have not found a better alternative. The Bsja now regularly measure ponies at events a 148 i believe can measure at 151 at a show but this does require a pad to measure on. I am sure height will continue to be the subject of discussion for many years to come. It is hard to believe that everyone was complaining about the height of the little brown mare in her 1st season - she would have been one of the smallest this year. Is it sour grapes!
On the hairy ponies subject i am horrified by Alan comments. It will be the end of pony racing at the pointing level if it becomes about money and proffessional trainers. Strongbow and Little Quaker are beautiful thourghbreds and have been great to watch lets hope they represent the South East well in the Charles Owen series but i have enjoyed watching the likes of Sammy, the featherstone pony at Detling, the two coloureds that ran at Charing and of course my very own Spotty pony who proberbly has done more days hunting than all the open finalists put together!
