All flap reconstructions continue to soften for about a year, so it depends on when they told you about their breasts. In general GAP breasts have a little more "texture" than DIEP breasts but I think the difference is fairly subtle. More often that not, GAP patients have a smaller breast and a tighter skin envelope in immediate reconstruction and so a bit more firm outcome. GAP fat can be thicker in some cases and so the projection is sometimes greater but not always. Gap fat may have a little more fibrous nature but again not a dramatic difference. They both compare favorable to a natural breast and are not like implants in texture of course.
Bottom line, no same answer for all patients. Your outcome will be a direct function of your individual body shape and your surgeon's talent.
