Dear Marcia,
The best ab exercises are those that are slow and controlled and do not exert pressure on the neck. So sit ups are basically out. Best are straight crunches alternating with rotary crunches (touching elbows to opposite knee). Also good are leg lifts which work the lower abs. None that much fun to do but really do the job.
