Dear Colleen,
A substantial amount of fat is necessary to create a meaningful injection. First the fat is suctioned and then only a small part of the amount acquired is useful. The fat is purified or centrifuged and the intact cells are injected in multiple spots to fill in the defect. About 50% of the injected fat is usually resorbed in an ideal injection. Areas with heavy scar tissue or prior radiation resorb more than this (sometimes entirely). So long story short, need a good bit of fat, expect some resorption and you won't know for sure until you try it. Other materials such as Alloderm can be effective as well for small contour issues.
Hope this helps,
Dr. D
