Hi Dr D
I am writing of behalf of my girlfriend. She was diagnosed with left breast cancer on April 10th and to make things worse, tested (+) for the BRCA 2 gene as well. She is only 36 yrs old and this past Thursday, after much debate, she underwent a bilateral mastectomy. She wanted to do the reconstruction right away with her mastectomy but for some unknown reason her plastic surgeon discouraged it (I think due to the fact he wasn't comfortable with the DIEP or Gap procedure and she didn't want implants). Knowing about your reputation as the best, we tried to contact someone at your breast center, emailing twice and calling 3x without a response. We opted to go ahead with the bilateral mastectomy due to the fact we didn't know how long the wait would be to get an appt with you and also we were afraid if we delayed the surgery, the cancer would grow and spread. Now, after the surgery, she is so distraught and depressed and just wants to have reconstruction as soon as possible. We know you are very busy and treat sooo many patients from all over the world. From the discussion boards from FORCE, it seems a 2-3 month wait is standard. But I don't know what else to do. I know we don't deserve special treatment, but is there anyway we can just get an appointment scheduled? Thank you for your time and consideration.
