I have been studying many aspects of photo therapy and would like some information or guidance if possible. I would like to start a photo therapy group for pregnant and parenting teens next fall. I plan on studying the books I have thus far as well as trying to attend a workshop or seminar between now and that time. I first became aware of photo therapy as a counseling technique last November at a school counselor's convention and have been fascinated since. Have any of you had success with this population while using photo therapy techniques? Thanks for your help and advice.
Re: Photo Therapy with Pregnant and Parenting Teens
Hello Laurie, I just saw your post and wonder how you have progressed? I am starting my thesis for an Art Therapy Masters using phototherapy techniques with teen fathers, so this is related to your group. I am in San Francisco and a family services agency is organizing the group of guys to use video and still, and I will be providing the exercises. It is a male-led group so I am behind the scenes. We have 3-4 sections relating to fatherhood. There is lots about kids/teens with cameras, not specifically about parenting teens. Abby

Hi Abby! Glad to see you posting here -- you might also want to ask this question (again?) to the Facebook Group for PhotoTherapy...
I did some consulting a few years ago, regarding a "young parents group" for an Agency who was trying to teach parenting skills so that these young parents could keep their children out of foster care.
I guided the workers in a series of exercises which were aimed toward increasing empathy, raising self-esteem/confidence, and also creating a process where they could learn to play with their children (most were survivors of a long history of being in care themselves and so did not learn parenting through the "natural" channels that most families provide).
If you want some consulting about this, feel free to phone or skype me -- I'll give you a half-hour or so for no charge...
Judy
